Ayden's Ambition

Guess Ayden's ambition from his sleeping position! ... Vin said he is a "Superman"! Because they way he sleeps resembles Superman when he's flying haha... I think he looks like he's controlling the traffic.

I read that most babies sleep with the hands up, near their face, because of better breathing.

Look how fast Ayden grows! He was able to wear the shirt a month ago.

He is now about 60cm and he's only entering his third month. I think he has to change shirt size soon, from 3m to 6m to 6m to 9m!

Happy Ayden!

I finally have a photo of Ayden smiling widely!

Ayden is entering his third month today. In terms of behaviour, I noticed a distinct change in him. When he was a newborn, he will only eat and sleep. Now, when he wakes up in the morning at 7, he will be very happy. When we talk to him or make funny exaggerated mouth movements like saying "dodo" and "lala", he will smile at you. When you imitate him making funny oohing and cooing sounds, he will be very delighted too :)

This is one of my favourite pictures of Ayden. Even though he is not smiling, he looks cute and attentive. Hmmm... It's a bit blur too :p

Another shot of Happy Ayden!

Ayden is happily waving his hands around.

Of course, this shot is taken by Vin, big faced photo!

Happy happy Ayden.

Ayden's Hunt for Food

Ayden goes "Gai Gai"

Nowadays, we will bring Ayden out to run some errands. I have tried all kinds of slings, and in the end I gave up. They are just too difficult to position and I can still feel the weight of the baby. Also, Ayden doesn't like the slings as they restrict his views and he cannot move his head around to look at the outside world.

In the end, we use the Ergo bag with the infant insert and finally, we have both our hands free to walk around! Also, the design of the Ergo bag places the baby's weight on our hips and we almost cannot feel the weight of the baby. This is of course important to us as Ayden is 6kg already!

Look at how happy Ayden is in his bag!

Ayden in his "Rolls Royce"

We have a Peg Perego stroller, that looks very impressive and sturdy but it is very heavy. Since HK is full of slopes and stairs, we didn't take it out of the box. However, Ayden is getting heavy. He is 5.7kg and he's only 7 weeks old! It is quite a hassle to carry him and shop around.

I found out that the stroller can be used without the infant seat, for babies above 1 month old. So we happily took the stroller out of its box... And found that it has a missing seat belt part! Of course, Ayden doesn't know how to really move around yet, so it is quite safe on smooth horizontal floor.

We decided to put Ayden in and see his reaction :)

As to why is it called a "Rolls Royce"... I was telling Vin that we should get a new lighter stroller since we do not have a car to transport this heavy stroller around. He claims that Ayden is very happy in his "Rolls Royce" and we shouldn't downgrade it for him. Of course, Vin just doesn't want to spend money on another stroller...

Ayden does really look happy in his stroller.

Another shot of Ayden being pushed around by his dad.

However, I can't tell who is happier... Ayden, who is sitting in his new toy or Vin, who is happily pushing him around our tiny house :)

Third Wedding Anniversary

It feels like Vin and I have been married for ages, rather than just the third year. I guess it is because we are really comfortable being married together and we have been through so much... It seems like a lifetime ago when we were just new lovers...

This is the first wedding anniversary that includes our new family member - Ayden. But also, because of him, we could not really celebrate properly. The least I can do is prepare a nice dinner. Normally, I only prepare western style meals on special occasions. Lesson learnt: Should finish preparing dinner before 6pm when Ayden turns fussy... He will not drink his milk properly, will not sit quietly in his swing, only wants me to carry and walk him around the house. And most of the time, I have to do it for 2 hours at least! I had to wait for Vin to be back to carry him, before I can finish preparing the meal.

This is what I had prepared - a main course and a soup.

The main dish is black pepper chicken chop, with some vegetables and pan-fried potatoes.

This is cream of mushroom soup, with some cream and croutons.

And for dessert, Vin bought a great fruit cake from Cova :) Besides celebrating our third anniversary, this cake was meant to celebrate Vin's birthday as well...

Ayden Playing with his Toy

The other day, I sat Ayden on his Swing after his bath. I didn't let him wear his mittens as I had already cut his nails and had wanted to air dry his hands. He also looked more adorable playing with his fingers :) I placed a soft toy in his hands and took the above pictures (Click to see a bigger image). He looked so cute playing with his toy! I realised that at this kind of impromptu moments, the HP camera is the most useful camera.

Ayden's First Smile

Ayden has started to smile a few weeks ago. However, he usually smiles when he has finished his feed and in a half-asleep, contented mood. Hence, it is quite difficult to capture on camera and most of the time, his eyes are closed while smiling. Only once, did he look at me and smile :p I'm waiting for the day when he can smile in response to us.

The above picture is the only one I can capture when he smiles... He has a very cute toothless grin and Vin loves to call him "Bo Geh", which is toothless in Hokkien.

Again, Ayden and his obsession with biting his mittens!

I have just cut his fingernails. People would often advise to cut baby's nails while they are sleeping but it is often quite an awkward position for me to cut... Hence, I found out the best time is when he is feeding. He will be too intent on feeding to notice what I'm doing to his fingers and toes!

Look at how small his hand and fingers are, as compared to mine!

Ayden's awake look, with hair standing up.

Ayden and his "Boss" look

There was one night, in the middle of feeding, Ayden fell asleep on the pillow... And his posture was so cute that I woke Vin up to take a photo. However, due to Vin's sleepiness, the photos didn't really capture the essence...

Ayden was lying on the "Mickey Mouse" pillow horizontally. His left hand was supporting his chin in a "Big Boss" look and his right hand was supporting his left hand.

Another view of the "Big Boss" look.

Ayden just about to wake up for food, showing off his big strong leg.

Ayden's Bath Routine

Normally, it will be Vin who will be in charge of holding Ayden while I scrub him clean. For a change, I wanted to try bathing him myself today. Hence, Vin is free to take shots of us :)

Ayden and his Swing

As we enter the second month of parenthood, it becomes apparent that taking care of a newborn is no easy nor simple task! As I'm breastfeeding Ayden, he wakes up for a feed every 2 hours in the day, and about 3 hours at night. When times are tough, he wakes up every 2 hours at night too. And 2 hours is counted from the time he starts to feed i.e. He wakes up, cries for milk, I change him, I feed him for 40 mins and lull him back to sleep... All these would take 1 hour already, and then if I'm lucky, he takes a nap for an hour and then the cycle repeats again.

Hence, I only have an hour to decide to take a nap, to have lunch or dinner, to do some household stuff, to go online or to bathe! One day, I decided to sacrifice my nap time and ended up with breast inflammation, and had a fever of 38+ degrees. The chills and body aches were killing me... It got so bad that I was in a shower in the middle of the night, with the water at 45 degrees. Luckily, I felt much better after a rest and I didn't need any antibiotics to recover.

If Ayden doesn't take a nap, I will be stuck carrying him and walking around... He will cry of boredom if I just let him lie on the bed. Hence, we decided to invest in a swing or bouncer! Found this perfect one, which is a 2 in 1.

Well, I guess it will take awhile for him to learn and enjoy his new toy!
