Ayden's Full Moon Celebration

Yesterday was Ayden's full moon. We had him decked out in an "Ernie" lookalike shirt and elephant socks! We also had a cake specially for this occasion, his very first cake. Of course, he can't taste it yet :p

Elephant socks! Can use as a toy too. Ayden likes to look at the elephant.

Family photo! :) We waited till 7pm when Ayden was awake to take photos.

For a baby's full moon, the tradition is to shave off the baby's head. By doing this, the hair will be re-grown more evenly. However, since Ayden has a head full of hair, we decided not to do it but to only snip off a few strands at the back. According to my aunt, by putting the hair into a red packet, when the baby is throwing tantrums, we can place the red packet under his pillow and he will behave!

Ayden and his Swaddle

Most newborns love to be swaddled as swaddling gives them a sense of security, like the tight constraints in a mother's womb. However, we are always of the impression that Ayden dislikes being swaddled. When we swaddle him, he will make some cries and move his arms furiously. After he is swaddled, he will try ways and means to remove his arms. Hence, we don't really practice swaddling.

Until one day, I read that newborns do not know how to go to sleep themselves. Meaning, even if they are very tired, they don't know how to go to dreamland by themselves. They need help from us, like petting them, rocking them etc. And one of the ways is to swaddle them. Besides giving them a sense of security, it prevents their movements from waking them up. Newborns have not totally gained control of their body, hence they may have some spontaneous movements and these may wake them up.

Ayden is about the length of a pillow.

Still licking his swaddle!

First Month Milestones

Today is Ayden's first month, according to the lunar calendar. Hence, we decided to check his development progress milestones. According to a book, at the end of first month, a baby can focus on your face and when turned on his stomach, he can lift his head briefly.

Well, Ayden can already focus on our faces, so we wanted to try out whether he can lift his head briefly while on his stomach.

This is the first time we placed him on his stomach. Haha... He's orientating himself. He got a funny hair day though :p

Enjoying his face down moments!

Got tired of trying to move around...

After our experiment, we concluded that yes, he can indeed lift his head briefly. However, we were unable to capture the shots. Ayden is also able to smile to himself when he's contented, usually when he's just finished his meal and in a drowsy state. There was only once when I heard him laugh out loud! He was asleep then, probably dreaming of a place full of milk :p

Funky Ayden!

My Aunt Molly bought some more new clothes for Ayden. He's actually wearing 3 months to 6 months sizes. What should I do with all the new newborn clothes??? We have actually washed them clean so we cannot exchange them...

I actually woke him up in his half-asleep state to dress him up and take photos. So he was a bit cranky...

Trying to make him open his eyes wider for a nicer pic :p

He looks so funky in his hat!!! Haha... Thanks Aunt Molly for the lovely set of clothes!

Ayden and his "Doggy" Outfit

When my sister and my brother in law came over to visit us, they bought some more new clothes for baby. Very grateful to them :)

Baby must thank Uncle Tim for his new clothes when he learns how to talk :) This is his "Doggy" outfit with "Doggy" socks.

Ayden's search for food has never stopped! Trying out the taste of his mittens...

Ayden and his Pacifier

We are under doctor's orders to reduce Ayden's milk volume. Hence, we are using a pacifier to keep him satisfied before his next 3 hour feed. He looks so cute with his pacifier that we ended up taking lots of photos of him with it. It is definitely his favourite toy now. Haha...

Guess who took this pic? Of course it is Vin! He loves to take photos of me with a big fat face! Now it's Ayden's turn.

He looks so contented sleeping with his pacifier.

Every time we wash his hair, it will be spiky for a few days! Maybe we should let him wear a cap.

Baby Ayden at Spa

Ayden loves being in water. I think most babies love water. There was once when I was awake in the middle of the night, and I went to the nursery to chat with the nurses. I saw one of them putting a baby girl into a huge tub of water. The nurses said this helps with colic and calm them down. The baby girl really looked like she was enjoying the spa treatment :)

However, Ayden will start screaming when you undress him or when you pull him out of the tub.

Forward pedal!

Enjoying a good rub.

Baby Ayden at Home

After 6 days in the hospital, we are finally going home! Ayden has a massive appetite and he's well known among all the nurses as a big eater. He has been waking up every 2 or 3 hours at night for feeding and finally, daddy has a chance to do his part at night feeds at home :)

Everyone says Ayden takes after his father, except he's much chubbier! The bib in the picture above was specially chosen by Vin.

This is one of my favourite pictures of Ayden.

Baby Ayden at Matilda

Baby Ayden has finally arrived into this world at 26 March 2010, 11:56am. He weighs 3.96kg and is 53cm long. His weight was quite impressive as just 6 days before he was born, he was only 3.4kg. Hmmm... I wonder what I ate to have such a big increase.

This was taken in a 4D scan when he was 31 weeks.

Our first family photo :) Ayden really felt quite heavy when he was placed on me.

A chubby little baby... The nurses called him "Little Buddha".

Ayden and his first toy.

Ayden's last bath at Matilda. He really enjoys time spent in water. The nurses at Matilda are really nice and friendly.
